Maltese holidaymakers are the fifth biggest spenders in the European Union, according to fresh Eurostat data.
They spend an average of €131 per night on tourism trips, well above the EU average of €97. Only Ireland, at €133 per night, sits just ahead.
Luxembourg leads the ranking with €176 per night, followed by Austria at €170 and Sweden at €140.
At the other end of the scale, Greek tourists spend the least at €47 per night, with Czechia and Poland at €55 and €57 respectively.
The figures point to strong disposable income and a willingness to spend on travel among Maltese consumers.
For local travel agencies, tour operators, and luxury hospitality brands targeting Maltese outbound travellers, this data confirms a premium market segment. It also suggests that outbound tourism expenditure remains a significant outflow from the Maltese economy.
