Malta Enterprise extends micro-invest scheme to 2030 with higher thresholds

The new five-year MicroInvest scheme raises the wage increase threshold to €85,000 for family and Gozo firms, with fiscal benefits of up to €1,020.
Malta Enterprise has launched a new MicroInvest scheme covering 2026 to 2030, extending support for small businesses and self-employed individuals. The scheme targets enterprises employing up to 50 people.
Eligibility has been expanded to include social enterprises for the first time. The tax credit programme is designed to help businesses upgrade operations, expand capacity, and improve competitiveness.
The threshold for wage increases has been raised to €85,000. This applies specifically to family businesses, Gozo-based companies, firms where more than half of ownership is in female hands, and social enterprises.
The fiscal benefit stands at €780 for enterprises based in Malta and €1,020 for those based in Gozo. To qualify, employees must have been employed for over four years, and their salaries must have increased by at least 3% annually.
Over the past three years, Malta Enterprise has approved more than 14,000 applications, providing over €140 million in assistance. The new scheme signals continued government commitment to small business development.
For Malta's small business community, this extension offers predictable planning for the next five years. The higher wage threshold for specific categories also reflects targeted policy to boost female ownership and Gozo's economic activity.
