Betway is placing its biggest bet yet on sports sponsorship, signing a multi-year agreement with Manchester United that sources estimate is worth in excess of £18 million. The Super Group brand will become the club’s official principal partner and exclusive global betting partner from the 2026/27 season. This is the largest sponsorship investment Betway has ever made.

But the deal looks different from the gambling sponsorships that dominated Premier League shirts in recent years. Betway’s logo will not appear on the front of Manchester United’s matchday shirts. Instead, it will feature on the training kits of both the men’s and women’s teams, and will be visible during matchdays at Old Trafford and the club’s training base.

The shift is driven by the Premier League’s voluntary front-of-shirt gambling sponsorship ban, which takes effect in the 2026/27 season. Clubs are now restructuring how they package commercial rights for betting partners. Training kit and stadium perimeter exposure are becoming the new premium inventory.

Marc Armstrong, Manchester United’s chief business officer, framed the deal as a reflection of the club’s commercial strategy. “The scale of our exciting new partnership reflects our growth strategy and enduring global strength,” he said. Neal Menashe, CEO of Super Group, pointed to Manchester United’s massive fanbase in Africa as a key driver.

For Malta’s iGaming sector, this deal is instructive. Betway, which is licensed by the Malta Gaming Authority, is navigating a regulatory environment that increasingly restricts direct gambling advertising on shirts. The training kit model offers a workaround that still delivers global brand exposure.

Betway already has sponsorship arrangements with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City. Its previous front-of-shirt deal with West Ham ended in 2025. The Manchester United agreement, however, sets a new benchmark for value and visibility in the post-ban era.

At an estimated £18 million, this ranks among the most expensive single-partner sponsorships in football history. That price tag suggests that while the shirt-front door has closed, the stadium and training ground windows are wide open.
